Melanie James Places First in Regional Art Competition

Sir Arthur Lewis Community College congratulates second year student Melanie James on emerging 1st place winner in the 17-19 category of the 2021 ECCB/RSS-ARU Creative Youth Competition!

The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) and the Regional Security System-Asset Recovery Unit (RSS-ARU) Creative Youth Competition provides an avenue to engage students about issues that impact the lives of the people of the ECCB member countries in support of academic programme and students’ development.

Melanie will be awarded a student grant of EC$3,000.00 and the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, will receive a development grant of EC$2,000.00. Melanie’s piece will be showcased on the ECCB’s website and social media platforms in the coming weeks.

In an email to Melanie the organization stated, “The judges were quite pleased with your submission and wish to encourage you to continue perfecting your skills in art.”

The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) and the Regional Security System-Asset Recovery Unit (RSS-ARU) expressed gratitude to the College for its continued support of the ECCB’s Community Outreach thrust through participation in the 2021 ECCB/RSS-ARU Creative Youth Art Competition.

This is the second year that a student of the College has won a top prize in a competition. In 2020, Khadijah Halliday was the 3rd place winner in the same age category ECCB Art Competition.

A Virtual Prize Giving Ceremony will be held in September with the participants, judges, mentor teachers and school principals in attendance.
