The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) hosted Mr. Ishikawa Takehiro from JICA’s Head Office in Saint Lucia from July 25th – 30th, 2022.
Mr. Takehiro made a special request to visit the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, to view the Hunter J François Library's special collection on Japanese history and culture, which consists of a donation of 32 books received from Japan earlier this year during National Library Week.
Mr. Takehiro added to the collection by presenting the SALCC Librarian with a book entitled - Japan's International Cooperation in Education: History and Prospects.
College officials highlighted the benefits of cultural exchanges and the importance of strengthening relations with JICA through initiatives such as the JICA Chair Programme at SALCC. The JICA Chair Programme comprises a series of activities with partner countries to share information about/on Japan.
This may involve short lectures, joint research activities etc. On February 7, 2022, the SALCC in collaboration with JICA held the first lecture - Educational Development and Modernization in Japan: Lessons for Saint Lucia. This lecture was delivered by Dr. Nobuko Kayashima.
