Expanding students' knowledge and practical exposure to the maritime sector and the Blue Economy, the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College concluded the BIMER (Brevet d'initiation à la Mer) Project on April 24, 2026.

This collaborative effort brought together the National Skills Development Centre (NSDC), BIMER and the Campus des Métiers et des Qualifications de la Mer (Martinique) to provide a unique platform for experiential learning, combining academic instruction with hands-on maritime activities.

A total of fourteen (14) students participated in the programme, with equal representation from SALCC and NSDC. Over the six-day period, students engaged in classroom sessions focused on boat classifications and marina operations, while also visiting Sud Nautique Marina to observe various types of vessels firsthand. The programme also included yole sailing, scuba diving, and kayaking which reinforced theoretical concepts.

The initiative also contributed to staff development through collaborative learning and exposure to international best practices within the maritime field. Tracy Pilgrim-George, SALCC Director of Internationalization, Advancement and Partnerships, highlighted the importance of partnerships like this in advancing education and training in the Blue Economy.
