The Sports Empowerment Initiative is a groundbreaking effort by the Students' Council aimed at addressing the financial and logistical challenges faced by the Houses at Sir Arthur Lewis Community College. This initiative is built on the belief that access to resources and opportunities is key to unlocking the full potential of our student athletes, fostering a vibrant sporting culture, and creating a foundation for long-term success.

Purpose

The initiative seeks to establish strategic partnerships between our Houses and private enterprises to secure funding and support for key aspects of student athletics, including:

  • Transportation to competitions
  • Equipment and gear
  • Uniforms, and;
  • Athlete development programmes

Vision

Our vision is to empower student athletes to excel by providing the resources and support they need to thrive. By partnering with local businesses, we aim to strengthen the connection between the college and the community while enhancing the overall competitiveness and spirit of our Houses.

How will this initiative work?

  • Collaboration: Houses will be partnered with private enterprises.
  • Support: Funding provided through these partnerships will directly benefit student athletes and House activities.
  • Accountability: Houses will maintain transparency by providing regular updates on the use of funds and the outcomes achieved.

Impact

This initiative is a step forward in creating an environment where sports can flourish at SALCC. By addressing current financial constraints and enabling access to quality resources, the Sports Empowerment Initiative paves the way for our athletes to compete at their best—locally, regionally, and beyond.

The Gym Refurbishment Initiative is a transformative project spearheaded by SALCC Sports Coordinator, Ms. Makeba Alcide, in collaboration with the Students' Council. The initiative focuses on enhancing the physical well-being of the student body by revitalizing the on-campus gym facility.

The project involves the removal of debris currently occupying the gym space and the complete refurbishment of the facility. Through this initiative, the gym will be equipped with modern fitness equipment generously provided to the student body by the Weightlifting Association.

This upgraded space will foster a supportive and accessible environment for students to pursue their health and fitness goals, emphasizing the Council’s commitment to holistic student development. The initiative reflects our dedication to promoting physical wellness, building community, and creating a campus experience that prioritizes the well-being of all.
