Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) and Community Tourism Agency (CTA) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a collaborative relationship aimed at fostering educational and training initiatives.
The MOU, effective January 17, 2024, underscores the commitment of both institutions to mutual growth and advancement in their respective fields.
This Memorandum of Understanding signifies a commitment to development of educational and training initiatives that will empower our local communities and elevate the standards of our tourism industry.
Mr. John Mathurin, CTA Deputy Chairman
Under the collaboration, SALCC will design and deliver training programmes for CTA, covering sectors such as Accommodation, Food & Beverage, and Recreational Facilities/Experiences. Additionally, discussions on internship programmes, exchange programmes, and collaborative research projects are anticipated.
SALCC Principal Dr. Madgerie Jameson-Charles expressed her excitement for the collaboration given her previous work in higher education. Chairman of the SALCC Board Mr. Cletus Springer shared her enthusiasm, and also called on policy makers to get involved for the sustainability of these programmes.
Both institutions look forward to long-term cooperation as they seek to empower communities to take greater ownership of their respective tourism sectors.
CTA Chief Executive Officer Dahlia Guard believes the high quality education offered by SALCC combined with CTA’s commitment to community development can bridge the gap between education and entrepreneurship, taking Saint Lucia’s tourism product to the new level.
