The Hunter J. François Library was established on February 27, 1993 and named in honor of Mr. Hunter J. François, a renowned Saint Lucian intellectual and the island's first Minister of Education.
The library has been instrumental in advancing access to academic resources and support for SALCC students and faculty. With the recent opening of the Derek Walcott Library, demand for research services has grown, reinforcing the library’s role as an essential educational resource for the college and the broader community.
Patrons of the Hunter J. François Library are free to borrow and renew printed books, and are allowed access to past exam papers from SALCC, as well digital course reserves and various syllabi.
HJFL offers workshops in information literacy, with the goal of developing the ability among students to access, manage, and effectively utilize information when studying and researching.
These workshops are hosted throughout the academic year and may be booked by contacting the library.

Held annually during the first week of April, Library Week promotes literary use and support. HJFL plans out a number of activities for the occasion, including community outreachs, literary competitions, debates, and panel discussions.
Launched during Saint Lucia's 44th Anniversary of Independence, Author Talks connects local writers with the public, allowing them to discuss their creative process while engaging with like-minded readers and asprining writers.
WORRRD Up is an annual library activity created to promote literacy and provide students the opportunity to test and display their literary skills.
The latest of the library's activities, Writers in The Spotlight is a literary fair aimed at fostering a culture of appreciation for literary talent in Saint Lucia.
