About Food and Beverage Operations
Food and Beverage Operations offers a blend of all aspects of food and beverage. The programme exposes the student to the management and operations of the kitchen, dining room, bar, events and catering aspects of the hospitality sector and places emphasis on providing efficient, quality service.
Students graduating from this programme will be well rounded in all areas relating to food and beverage operations.
This programme is a pre-requisite for the Culinary Arts programme.
Learning Outcomes
- Participants develop a foundation upon which they can begin to meet their full potential within the culinary field.
- Students will have fostered the makings of a productive member of the hospitality community — engendering a level of skill and productivity allowing them to purse key opportunities within the industry.
Career Paths
Entrepreneur
If you have a passion and talent for food, consider starting a business around your cooking. This could be a food truck, café, bakery, or even your own catering company!
Caterer
Caterers offer their services in food and beverage operations at various events, such as graduations, weddings, parties and conferences. They prepare and serve food to their clients based on specified requests, dietary preferences, and dietary restrictions such as allergies.
Sommelier
A Sommelier is a wine professional trained in all aspects of the service. Some of these include a good taste in wine selection, both on its own and when paired with specific dishes, as well as the storage of wine and related beverages.
Sommeliers generally find work in hotels, restaurants, bars, and parties.

Being in the kitchen is what I enjoyed most about this programme. As someone who loves being hands-on and creative, this programme was definitely a great experience.

- Required passes (Grades 1, 2; or Grade 3 from June 1998) in English A, Mathematics, Food & Nutrition, French or Spanish, and at least ONE of the following:
- Principles of Business
- Principles of Accounts
- Economics
- Social Studies
- Chemistry
- In addition, all candidates who have not passed CSEC French or Spanish will be required to register for and successfully complete an access course in the subject area prior to registration.
