About Environmental Studies and Sustainability

The Bachelors Degree in Environmental Studies and Sustainability provides learners with an improved understanding and respect for our natural world.

Through the lens social sciences and humanities, the programme explores economic and political factors contributing to environmental issues, and examines solutions which can realistically address these problems.

The programme covers topics relevant to this discussion, such as anthropology, geographic information systems, sustainability, climate change, policy and management.

Practicum experiences, an apprentice-based internship, and a capstone are woven into the curriculum, offering students the experience necessary for a range of professional opportunities within research, education, public service and wider industries.

Learning Outcomes

  • Discuss measures to effectively manage pollutants in the environment.
  • Explain the relationships and interactions among living organisms and their environment and analyze their impact on the biological community.
  • Apply the methods used to measure, assess and monitor population growth.
  • Investigate different natural hazards and their impact(s) on renewable and non-renewable energy, the environment, and society by using disaster cases from within the Caribbean and the Americas.
  • Analyze the biochemical/nutrient cycles within ecosystems with a focus on certain elements and the importance of these cycles to ecosystems.
  • Describe the various methods of extraction and utilization of primary and secondary energy resources.
  • Describe waste management and basic principles of waste management.
  • Identify the key anthropogenic contributors to air, water, and land pollution.
