SALCC Strengthens Global Partnerships and Student Opportunities Through French Engagement Week

The Sir Arthur Lewis Community College successfully hosted a series of impactful French-focused engagements, reinforcing its commitment to internationalisation, student development, and regional collaboration.

The week featured three key initiatives: a high-level visit by French Ambassadors and diplomatic representatives, the BIMER Student Exchange Programme, and the vibrant celebration of Francofête 2026 — each contributing to a dynamic and enriching experience for students, staff, and partners.

SALCC was honoured to welcome a distinguished delegation of French Ambassadors and partners for a two-day visit that strengthened diplomatic and academic ties. The visit created space for meaningful dialogue on education, culture, and future collaboration, positioning the College as a key regional partner in advancing international cooperation. The engagement highlighted SALCC's growing role as a bridge between Saint Lucia and the wider global community.

A major highlight of the week was the BIMER Student Exchange Programme, which brought together students from Saint Lucia and Martinique for an immersive, hands-on learning experience in the Blue Economy. Students explored non-traditional career pathways including boat maintenance, maritime safety, and navigation—gaining practical, job-ready skills through direct industry exposure.

Upon completion of the programme, participants will receive certification, equipping them with competencies relevant to employment opportunities within Saint Lucia and across the wider region. The initiative also strengthened institutional capacity, with SALCC lecturer Mrs. Nadia Biscette receiving specialised training to support the continued delivery of the programme locally.

Francofête 2026 provided a vibrant and engaging cultural experience, welcoming over 120 students from SALCC and secondary schools. For many attendees, it was their first visit to the College, with several expressing surprise and pride upon learning that Saint Lucia's Nobel Laureates are laid to rest on the campus.

The event created a platform for SALCC students to showcase their talents as MCs, musicians, and performers, highlighting the depth of creativity within the College community. The success of Francofête was further enhanced by the generous support of local hotel partners, who contributed food items and helped foster a true spirit of community collaboration.

At SALCC, we see French not just as a language, but as a powerful pathway — one that opens doors to higher education, skills training, and meaningful careers across the region and beyond. Our goal is to ensure that our students are not limited by geography, but empowered by opportunity.

Through initiatives like these, we are equipping them with the tools, exposure, and confidence to step into a wider world and succeed.
