Overview

This programme is geared towards developing agricultural entrepreneurs for the future. It aims to develop individuals who are competent in both crop production techniques and entrepreneurial approaches to agriculture.

These competencies include planning, implementing, and operating in an environment which takes into consideration climate smart and sustainable agricultural practices.

As a result of the competencies developed in the programme, graduates will be able to apply appropriate crop production and sustainable techniques while being able to capitalize on business opportunities in the field.

Objectives

This programme seeks to;

  • Equip graduates with the skills to implement climate smart production techniques;
  • Instill in individuals an entrepreneurial mindset;
  • Generate industry responsive skills that produces employment ready graduates;
  • Be a hands-on competency-based education and training programme;
  • Empower graduates to envision the potential employment opportunities in the field of Climate smart crop production;
  • Empower students with the skills to discern and produce high value crops;
  • Allow graduates to apply the theoretical underpinnings related to concepts of crop production, food security, sustainability, and resilience in industry;
  • Produce graduates who understand and appreciate the global implications of their practice both economically and environmentally;
  • Generate creativity in their practice through a clear understanding of their context;
  • Conceptualize and implement an agricultural enterprise;
  • Allowing students to carve out their niche in crop production and enterprise development.

Entry Requirements

  1. Post-secondary school students require a minimum of five (5) CSEC passes (Mathematics and English required).
  2. CSEC passes in the following subjects would be an asset:
    • Principles of Business
    • Chemistry or Biology
  3. Students who have completed the CVQs Crop Production I and Crop Production II also qualify to enter the programme provided they have English and Mathematics at CSEC (or through the Pre-college programme).
  4. Mature Students status – A person will be eligible for consideration if;
    • They have reached their 21st birthday;
    • They have at least three to five years of work experience in the Agricultural Sector;
    • Or they are self-employed in the Agricultural Sector.
    • An interview will be required.
