This programme is aimed at reskilling teachers so that they can effectively employ media and technology to support learning in physical and virtual spaces (Technology Enabled Learning). The programme is designed to assist teachers in adopting blended learning strategies through a step-by-step constructivist and design-based approach. Participants will learn how to create content for online instruction and blended instruction.

Practitioners in diverse contexts – primary and secondary education, post-secondary education, vocational education, and workplace training – who plan to use online teaching will benefit from participation.

Understanding 21st Century Education

Foundations and Pedagogy

In this module you will learn what it means to teach and learn in the 21st century. You will explore the challenges faced as a 21st century teacher and will develop a vision for teaching and learning in the 21st century. You will engage in using the elements of the connected classroom and will create activities for this context. You will develop the capacity of learners to teach in a virtual learning environment.

Your Place in The Digital World

Foundations and Pedagogy

In this module you will create and manage your own online presences and footprints and learn how to control this digital identity (or identities). You will also explore processes of finding resources, and develop skills to draw on these resources, to evaluate, combine and create new resources. You will also explore ways of interacting with networks in a manner that is meaningful and purposeful. This entails constructively sharing information, knowledge and resources.

Assessment in the Technology Enabled Learning Context

Foundations and Pedagogy

In this module you will explore the issue of assessing ICT integration and assessing ICT related teaching and learning. You will be exposed to tools that can be used in this assessment process. You will be required to use the insights gained to design tools and strategies to assess students’ learning with digital technologies.

Audio-visual Production

Creative Content Development

In this module you will be able to manage an audio-visual production, from initial stages (storyboarding, shooting, compositing etc) to the conclusion (rendering and distribution), making use of audio-visual production methods and procedures. You will learn how to use production hardware and software and apply a digital non-linear editing system to develop and publish your product in an appropriate format for distribution.

Animation for Educators

Creative Content Development

In this module you will explore tools for developing animated sequences for instruction. These include opensource and freemium software that can be used online or as third-party tools. You will also be required to manage an animated production, from initial stages to the conclusion, making use of 2D animation production methods and procedures. You will learn how to use production software and apply relevant editing techniques to develop and publish your product in an appropriate format for distribution.

Technologies to Manage and Output Digital Imaging

Creative Content Development

In this module you will explore the use of open source software to create industry standard digital graphics products. These tools include, but are not limited to, Kitra, Inkscape, Gimp, and presentation tools. You are free to explore other tools that can support graphic design to industry standards.

Capstone Project

Design and Development (OER)

In this module you will develop open education and digital resources to support technology-enabled instruction whether for the face-to-face context or online instruction. You will also use online tools for content creation, and develop content repositories. You will also be required to apply knowledge gleaned from other modules to create and share content for your areas of specialization.
