Dr. Keith Nurse

Dr. Keith Nurse was appointed Principal of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in November 2019. He has formerly served at the University of the West Indies as the World Trade Organization Chair, Executive Director at UWI Consulting Inc., Director of the Shridath Ramphal Centre for International Trade Law, Policy and Services and Senior Fellow at the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies. He is adjunct faculty at the Arthur Lok Jack Global School of Business in Trinidad and Tobago. Dr. Nurse is an expert member on the United Nations Committee for Development Policy, Economic and Social Council and Senior Economic Advisor at the OECD Development Centre. He has worked as a researcher and consultant to governments and international and regional organizations in a wide range of areas such as trade policy, trade in services, intellectual property value capture, export diversification and global value-chain integration, industrial policy and innovation governance, creative industries, tourism, migration and diasporas, gender and economic restructuring, climate change and sustainable development.

Dr. Nurse is also very involved in the Creative Industries being a pioneer in the development of the industry in the Caribbean He is the executive producer of the docudrama “Forward Home: The Power of the Caribbean Diaspora” which was funded under an IDRC research project (www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj0vLkUyRtU). He is the Chair of Caribbean Tales media group as well as former President of the Association of Caribbean Economists and one of the founding members of the World Economics Association. He has served on the advisory board of the WTO Chairs programme, and the MA in Technology Governance at the University of Tallinn, Estonia, editorial board of the academic journal Feminist Economics and Island Studies Journal and the Anthem Press Other Canon Series. He has recently been commissioned as a consultant for the Aschberg Programme on Culture and Trade, UNESCO.

Dr. Nurse has worked as a researcher and consultant to governments and international and regional organizations in a wide range of areas such as trade policy, trade in services, intellectual property value capture, export diversification and global value-chain integration, industrial policy and innovation governance, creative industries, tourism, migration and diasporas, gender and economic restructuring, climate change and sustainable development.
