SALCC Participates in French Dictation Competition

The Sir Arthur Lewis Community College's Modern Languages Unit collaborated with l'Organization Internationale de la Francophonie, through the UNESCO Commission and held the Concours de Dictee on March 22, 2023.

The Concours de Dictee is a French dictation competition for tertiary-level students, held in observance of International Francophonie Day (Journée Internationale de la Francophonie) which was observed on March 20th. The participants from SALCC and the View-Fort Post Secondary School engaged in two rounds of listening and writing exercises, in which they were judged on spelling, conjugation, punctuation and grammar.

The ten participants of the Concours de Dictee competition were Destiny Isembert, Caitlin Polius, Janai Sylvestre, Lennora Agdomar, Hannah Edwin, Ariella Caesar, Megan Scott, Tissa Dorville, Sherice Gajadhar and Jelani Justin.

The participants of the competition were Destiny Isembert, Caitlin Polius, Janai Sylvestre, Lennora Agdomar, Hannah Edwin, Ariella Caesar, Megan Scott, Tissa Dorville, Sherice Gajadhar and Jelani Justin .

Following the competition's two rounds, Tissa Dorville of the Vieux-Fort Post Secondary School emerged as the first place winner, with SALCC's own Megan Scott and Hannah Edwin coming in second and third place respectively. As the second place winner, Ms. Scott stands to receive a smartphone, while Ms. Edwin will receive an opportunity to further pursue her French studies through classes offered at Alliance Francaise de Ste Lucie.

Prizes will be formally awarded to students on , during the International Francophonie Day Prize giving Ceremony, to be held at the National Cultural Centre.
