Hospitality Studies

The Hospitality Studies department offers an Associate degree in four areas which includes Culinary Arts, Food and Beverage Operations, Hospitality Studies, and Travel & Tourism Studies. Learners enrolled in these areas of studies will be exposed to quality service standards and industry experience built on a foundation of theory. Upon successful completion of the two-year study period, learners are prepared to continue their studies or enter into the workforce with all the requisite skills needed for the industry.

The Associate Degree in Hospitality Studies is designed to provide participants with a thorough knowledge of the functions of the rooms division of a hotel, with emphasis on the unique relationships between Front Office, Housekeeping, Maintenance and other departments of the hotel. The programme provides an understanding of the management and operational concepts and principles relevant to the operations of the hotel, thereby equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to operate at supervisory levels.

Entry Requirements

  1. The entry requirement for this programme are minimum of five (5) passes in subjects at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC), which will included (but not restricted to) Mathematics, English A, Food and Nutrition, a foreign Language, Social Studies/Chemistry/Business. These entry requirements are in keeping with the requirements of SALCC.
  2. Mature Students status – a person who has reached their 21st birthday, at least three/five years’ work experience in the hospitality industry and at least three (3) CSEC matching the standard entry requirements.

At the end of this programme it is expected that learners will be:
