salcc The Sir Arthur Lewis Community College was established under an Act No. 8 of 1985, to provide a place of education offering instruction in:

  • Agriculture;
  • Arts Science and General Studies;
  • Health Science;
  • Teacher Education and Educational Administration
  • Technical Education and Management Studies

sir william arthur lewisThe 238 sq mile Caribbean island of St. Lucia, has produced a number of prominent figures, among these thus far, two Nobel Laureates: Sir Arthur Lewis and Derek Walcott. Sir Arthur Lewis, after whom this College has been named, was bestowed with the honour of Nobel Laureate in Economics in 1979 and Derek Walcott, a pillar of the literary arts achieved the title of Nobel Laureate in Literature in 1992.

  • Teachers' College moves to Combermere Barracks and Morne Education Complex begins.
  • Organization of Morne Library begins 
1969 
  •  Morne Secondary opens its doors
1970  
  •  Morne Technical College begins classes.
1971
  • Science Block completed.
  • University Centre relocates to the Morne
  • Technical Teachers Training College begins a Regional programme for Industrial Arts and Science Teachers
1974 
  •  Library moves to new quarters in the Science Block
1975 
  • GCE A'Level programme for all schools consolidated into a Sixth Form College
  • UWI begins Challenge programme
  • UWI inaugurates UWIDITE System for distance teaching
1987 
  • Morne Complex becomes Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC)
  • OECS Technical Vocational Courses in Industrial Arts and Home Economics being
  • Audio Visual Centre established
 1988
  • Commnity outreach begins through the SALCC's Department of Continuing Education
  • College begins offering First Year University courses in Arts, Natural and Social Sciences
  • Victoria Hospital School of Nursing becomes  the Division of Health Sciences of the College.
